Very insightful, albeit a little hard to follow as its language is rather cryptic, more so because the names and locations of events are extremely foreign.

Sure, there were comparisons between the lifestyles of both, but I was not expecting this Unfortunately, the historical content was so jumbled that it was nearly impossible to follow. The best cast scenario is that Bathory abused her servants but came nowhere near the level of violence alleged at her trial. I appreciate the attempt to at least try to find a poetic meaning in the psyche of such a vile person, but condrsa truth is there is very little verifiable detail about what was going through the mind of this mad woman, aside from the recorded list of victims found in her diary.
There is very little in this book that cannot be learned elsewhere and the sources are somewhat lacking. She grew up in a land of superstition, violence, social backwardness, ruled by an aristocracy that ranged from ruthless kings to demented landlords; she witnessed public executions and drunken family orgies since she was a child. Coneesa you’re interested, there is a bit about her online, although you need to sort through the sensationalism versus known facts – that’s why I ended up with this book.
Apart from that is a very interesting reading about a homicidal maniac that was Elisabeth. Many looked to Countess Elizabeth Bathory when attempting to explain the disappearances.

Or did powerful men fabricate those horrors to seize her wealth? The authors created a mishmosh of a book with little organization and constant jumping between subjects. What few facts there were in this book were hidden in a jumble of disorganized and irrelevant information; what information was presented batgory Bathory herself was scant and peppered with flowery supposition on the author’s part.
Penrose made surrealist collages. Unfortunately, the Countess started to find relief in mistreating her young waitresses, until her violent moods and frustrated sexuality got out of control.
