I can still remember some of those earlier incarnations in the ’50s or so where ‘she’ m I absolutely loved this book and read it in just one day. They both change identities by reshaping their bodies as if haldsman were digitalized pixels.
It spent thousands of years as microscopic organisms in the sea where it landed and left its ship. But Camouflage is primarily the changeling’s story, from the day it rises from the oceans where it has been living as a shark for ages, and encounters human beings for the first time.

I breezed through the audiobook of Camouflage in just 8 hours, and while it was fast-paced and action-packed, it left almost no impression at all. And why are drawn to each other in what seems must be a confrontation that will wipe one or the other out?

Two aliens are on Earth – the Chameleon and the Changeling. The chameleon isn’t explored nearly as three-dimensionally. Likewise halde,an human scientists researching the artifact were not very interesting, but the the focus wasn’t so much on them as characters anyway; it was more about their work on the artifact.

By contrast the chameleon alien 2 was rather one dimensional in its desire for bloodshed and destruction. The story involves two camoutlage stranded on Earth for so long that neither remembers its origins.
The shark doing the camouflaging and hoovering is an Angel shark, eating a Horned shark. In the end, if Camouflage were a first novel written by an unknown author and not by Joe Haldeman, renowned Cajouflage Grand Master, Science Fiction Hall of Fame member, and multiple Hugo and Nebula Award winner, not only would it not have won the Nebula Award, it may well have made the rounds of publisher rejections as so many books do.
Unfortunately, only a fraction of them are used. It was fascinated by humans and learned quickly about them, and over the years, it lived as both men and women.
Camouflage tells camoufoage story of two seemingly immortal shape shifting aliens who get bored of their living situation and decide to move to Earth.
I just finished this book and all I can say is that I’m really glad that I happened upon it in a bookstore and bought it. Readers should commend Haldeman for the ideas in the prologue.
This difference defines the way they see mankind, and provides an interesting guess at how an outside observer might interpret the greatest hits and horrors of the twentieth century.
