Shouldn’t your priority be keeping your stomach satisfied to survive?
This is a book that could very well change someone’s life. It takes courage to speak up when holdimg or someone you know is being mistreated. And I loved the natural build of the romance between Noelle and Julian. She says she doesn’t want to “subject herself to that kind of humiliation,” but she’s already getting made fun of for eating things like a lettuce and mayo sandwich. I thought her release would be a light, contemporary YA novel like her release, but it colwsanti so much more than I expected.
B I have to say I had seen some great reviews of this and was really looking forward to a gritty read. Even if it took awhile for Noelle to open up to Sherae, she eventually did. It will make it that much more susand, and sad and haunting. You can’t make them happy. Yet, Noelle repeatedly sees her friend Ali bullied and not only doesn’t step in, she rebuffs Ali’s gestures of further friendship to avoid being tainted by association. Keep Holding On is about Noelle, a girl who is bullied at school for being poor.
She has to endure the hardships in life by working while studying just so she can sustain her own needs, though she has a mother whose suppose to take care of her and provide for her. I was also nicknamed “laundry girl” by my mom because that was my chore. View all 17 comments. The characters fell flat for me. I always bought my own!
By putting her own power onto him, she only further weakens her own self-esteem and self-reliance and Here are a few of them: Her situation suc This read so much like an after school special. Life’s stupid and gorgeous and obnoxious and endowing.
That said, I had many issues with Keep Holding On, some that kept me from enjoying it. I also found her mother very convincing. School was the most difficult time in my life. So, there’s really not much much else to say about this book, except that it’s an important one. That she can be worthy, and move beyond, and even just keep holding on. Noelle learns to be thankful for what she has instead of being depressed about everything she doesn’t.
It’s not a lighthearted story, but it’s not going to leave more demanding readers satisfied. She has clothes just enough to wear to school every day, and nothing more. View all 4 comments.
I was picked on and laughed at for being little. It makes me feel like everything is going to be okay. Why do I always dislike the covers for this author’s books? People are truly this colasahti to other people in high school? The progression was well paced and really fit in with Noelle’s story.
But the after-school-special-like feel of the book, pulled me out of the story occasionally. And she’s done being afraid to start creating a better life for herself. It’d be a wonderful way to help give insight into what bullying can do to someone and how victims of it are not alone.
At home, Noelle is basically invisible unless her mom wants to go off on some kind of tangent. Apparently she’s too proud for free lunch even though she qualifies. This book just left me speechless.
Noelle finds sanctuary when she joins the lit mag as co-editor. Bullies enjoy bullying her. Everyone knows at least one bully in their school. It’s beautifully heartbreaking and tragically sweet, subtly raging and fabulously daring. Discover Prime Book Box for Kids.
I finished reading this book yesterday and my feelings for this book are still very conflicted.
